St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School

‘The mission of schools and teachers is to develop an understanding of all that is true, good and beautiful.’

Pope Francis

The teaching of Religious Education is at the core of St Gregory’s. We are inspired to walk in the light of the Lord in all that we do. We promote the importance of knowing and understanding our faith and encourage everyone in our school community to be the best versions of themselves in order to become who they have been created to be.

At St Gregory’s, we have implemented a new Religious Education Curriculum in all year groups, which is statutory in all Catholic schools in England and Wales from September 2026. The guidance document is called ‘To Know You More Clearly’ and it has been produced by the Religious Education Directory. This is a rich new curriculum that seeks to deepen the spiritual journey of children by fostering a profound understanding of Catholic teachings and values. In Early Years and Key Stage 1, RE is taught for two hours per week. In Key Stage 2, this is increased to 2 and a half hours a week.

Children are encouraged to explore their faith through a lens of curiosity and introspection. This not only imparts knowledge but also cultivates a genuine and enduring relationship with God. Scripture is at the foundation of each branch of learning.

The curriculum is arranged into six branches of learning, which are studied each half term. These are: Creation and Covenant; Prophecy and Promise; Galilee to Jerusalem; Desert to Garden; To the Ends of the Earth; Dialogue and Encounter. Pupils explore these branches through four knowledge lenses; Hear, Believe, Live and Celebrate.
