St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School

‘Sing a new song unto the Lord; proclaim His help day by day.’

Psalm 95:1-2

At St Gregory’s we believe that worship in a Catholic school names and celebrates God’s presence in our lives.

Our children pray together at least three times a day: at the beginning of the day, before lunch and at the end of the school day. These prayers are embedded into practice as soon as pupils begin at St Gregory’s and this progresses through the year groups with further prayers put into practice in RE lessons and times of Prayer and Liturgy. We hold three formal times of Prayer and Liturgy each week; our children have regular opportunities to take part in and lead Collective Worship.

“A variety of forms of prayer are used routinely and mark different points in the day, allowing the pupils to reflect on the importance of God in their lives always.” (CSI Report, 2023)

In every school term at St Gregory’s, there are many special liturgies to mark important events and feast days in the Church’s liturgical year. These include: St Gregory’s Feast Day, All Saints and All Souls, Remembrance Day, Advent and Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Lent and Easter, Ascension and Pentecost. The children also participate in The Stations of the Cross, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, the Sacrament of Reconciliation and a Marian (May) Procession. We celebrate Mass together regularly; these are led by our parish priests.
