St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School

‘Sing a new song unto the Lord; proclaim His help day by day.’

Psalm 95:1-2

At St Gregory’s we believe that worship in a Catholic school names and celebrates God’s presence in our lives.

Our children pray together at least three times a day: at the beginning of the day, before lunch and at the end of the school day.

We hold four formal assemblies each week; our children have regular opportunities to take part in and lead Collective Worship.

‘Prayer and worship are an integral part of school life. Pupils understand the importance of prayer and participate readily in class and assemblies.’ – Section 48 Inspection, 2016.

In every school term at St Gregory’s, there are many special liturgies to mark important events and feast days in the Church’s liturgical year. These include: St Gregory’s Feast Day, All Saints and All Souls, Remembrance Day, Advent and Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Lent and Easter, Ascension and Pentecost. The children also participate in The Stations of the Cross, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, the Sacrament of Reconciliation and ‘Sorry Services’ and a Marian (May) Procession.

We celebrate Mass together regularly; these services are led by our parish priests.

Parents are invited to Year Group Masses at least once each academic year and each class prepares an assembly to share with their parents and Key Stage. This year, each of these has focused on a Bible story to help to celebrate, live and share God’s word for the Year of the Word.

The prayers we say together and our Collective Worship policy can be found below.

‘When we pray, it helps me understand what God is saying to me; I want to help others in my school understand too.’ – Elijah, June 2019.
